Part of a 15-year association with The Cafritz Foundation in Washington, DC. as the principal designer for the historic apartment buildings in their residential real estate portfolio. This project involved a complete restoration and renovation of all public areas in an Art Deco apartment house built in 1939 by developer Morris Cafritz and designed by architects Alvin Aubinoe and Harry Edwards. All remaining original architectural details were restored and many lost features newly designed to complement them in historically appropriate style and materials. This included a custom terrazzo lobby floor, stainless steel ceiling fixture, wall mirror, lobby bench, and design of a complete interior and exterior sign program. The lobby layout was re-configured to create a separate mailroom and introduce design symmetry to a long-neglected space.
